"GRAND PARADE, CORK CITY:
The old city of Cork of which the poet Spenser wrote: 'The pleasant Lee
that like an island fayre, encloseth Corke with his divided flood', has changed
considerably since his days, and the 'divided flood' has been covered in leaving
now only the south and north channels of the river. Running up from the south channel
is the Grand Parade. The National Monument there is dedicated to the men who took
part in the insurrections of 1798, 1848, and 1867."
