From a recent estate sale I was lucky to get one of the highly collectible Imperial Crown Vienna Austria plate. It's 8" in diameter (salad-size plate) with gold-ornated green border and gilded (22K?) edges trim. In the center is a bucolic scene of two goddesses chatting to a young man. Some age-appropriate tarnishing of the gold is present. Otherwise, colors are bright, no cracks, no scuffs, no chips. Plate is marked and numbered
This is one is called "Angelica Kauffman" plate. The Neoclassical painter Angelica Kauffman [1741 - 1807], whose signature seems to be present on this Royal Vienna Plate made ca 1890s-1920s, was a highly successful painter. Even after her death, the most popular transfers were taken from her paintings, many of mythological and historical scenes. Her name on the plate is indicative of the fact that her "signature" was more of a reference to the artistic style, as in "after" Kauffman, rather than trying to tell us that this item was actually hand-painted by the same famous artist.
There are two pottery marks on the back and number "73"
One is an ‘Imperial Crown China Austria' back stamp. It was the pottery mark of a decorator and importer as distinct from a manufacturer . A very nice quality studio item made by a firm called 'Bawo and Dotter' (1883 - 1914). They decorated blanks at their studio in Fischern, Bohemia. Bawo & Dotter exported to the US and had offices in New York and also a decorating plant in Limoges, France. The town they were based at is now called Rybáře and is located in the Czech Republic.
The other one 'Vienna Austria' with double shields and a crown denoted where the blanks came from.

This plate will make a great addition to your collection of Vienna porcelain.
