Listing Update...we wanted to clarify that relative to our other new-old-stock 3T bars, this offering represents a newer model (but still a model that is out of current production). At some point in the late 90's (we believe), 3T began moving some of their production to high-end facilities in the Orient. The research, design and development was still under the direct supervision of 3T in Italy, but the production process was moved for business/ecomonic reasons. 3T still maintained complete control of the production process, but this control no longer resided in production facilities located in Italy. We mention this because we believe this offering was produced in one of these newer facilities in the Orient...and that is the reason for the "Designed in Italy" label noted on the clamp area, as compared to the "Made In Italy" labeling you will find on our older 3T handlebar offerings. We are not passing judgement on one set of bars being superior to the other due to it's place of origin, but we do want each customer to understand the meaning behind the subtle labeling difference.

This item for sale is one set of new-old-stock 3T "4G XL" handlebars (44 cm) with an oversized stem clamp size of 31.8 mm (please note that 3T measures their bars from outside edge to outside edge with respect to their width...so a center-to-center equivalent measurement would be in the 42 cm range). They are part of 3T's Racing Team Service product line, so intended for competition-level applications and capable of withstanding relatively high levels of stress.

More specifically (and according to 3T specs), these bars are made out of T6 Heat-Treated AL 2014 alloy and the tubing is butted...meaning the tubing is going to be thicker around the center section where there is typically more stress and then taper to thinner walls away from the center section (which undoubtedly helps to keep the weight down...265 grams per our digital postal scale...while still retaining acceptable levels of strength/stiffness where needed). They have anatomic bends and are double grooved to handle all forms of aero and modern dual control brake/shifter levers.

For those that are not familiar with the anatomical designed handlebars, they typically have very distinct bends in the drops, as opposed to the uniform and rounded bends of traditonal road handlebars. These distinct bends create more defined hand positions...or flat spots...in between the bends. It appears to be a personal preference debate as to which style is superior...some like the feel of the traditional rounded handlebars where the hand positioning is probably more varied...and some like the feel of the anatomical designed bars where the hand positioning is somewhat more limited, but some would argue more secure (given the flattened bar design between bends). In the end, there is probably merit to both designs, but please keep in mind these handlebars are the anatomic design.

Consistent with our other 3T handlebar offerings (and in an attempt to further assist with proper fit), we have taken some additional (center-to-center) measurements and noted a reach of 80 mm and a drop of 148 mm (and please refer to our notes below that specify our measurement techniques...in the event someone wants to replicate our approach for comparative purposes).

In terms of condition, these bars are new and unused and show no signs of ever having been clamped to a stem. 

A note about our "reach" and "drop" measurements...
A number of customers have asked about our handlebar measurement techniques, so we thought it was probably appropriate to better define how we go about measuring the handlebars we offer for sale.

The drop...we "stand the bars up" so the only contact point with the table top is the flattened drop area near the bar ends (although we typically have to hold the bars in this position so they do not fall over). From this position, with the drop section of the bars resting on the table top, we measure the vertical distance from the table top to the bottom edge of the bar tubing at the stem clamp area (and then add 4.0 mm to account for half the tubing diameter difference of 31.8 mm at the clamp area compared to 23.8 mm away from the clamp area). This provides our version of a center-to-center measurement for the drop.

The reach...keeping the bars in the upright position on the table (as noted above), we push them against the wall facing us, so the outermost section of the bar bend (i.e., the area around where the shifter/brake levers are mounted) is touching the wall. From this position, we measure the horizontal distance from the wall to the front of the stem clamp area (and then add 4.0 mm to account for half the tubing diameter difference of 31.8 mm at the clamp area compared to 23.8 mm away from the clamp area). This provides our version of a center-to-center measurement for the reach.

We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value).
