The K&N Filter for the 1987 and 1988 Super Magna has been available for many years now.  However, it hasn't worked very well in the 1987 Magna.  An overly lean condition resulted and performance was terrible in the lower RPM range.

Over the past 10 years, I've worked with K&N Engineering to correct the problem.  After having two different Super Magnas into K&N for onsite testing, the K&N PreFilter has been developed.  No jetting changes will be required to your 1987 Magna if you install the PreFilter on top of the K&N HA-7598 Air Filter.  If everything else with your carbs and intake are stock, installing the K&N Prefilter on top of your existing K&N air filter on the 1987 Magna will result in a slight increase in Horsepower over the stock Honda air filter across the entire RPM range.

Test results are shown in the graph in the pics. 

The red line represents the K&N HA-7598 Air Filter with prefilter installed. 

The blue line represents the stock Honda air filter. 

***Note: The 1988 Honda Magna does not require the PreFilter.***
