Product Description:

This offering is for a set of new-old-stock Shimano aluminum alloy brake levers (Model BL-Z306) in the non-aero design (which means the brake cable will "exit" out the top of the lever body and in plain view). These are a mid 80's version of Shimano's drilled/slotted levers with factory matched black rubber hoods in soft/pliable condition.

These levers are good quality with a satin silver finish and Shimano labeling highlighted in gold...the latter of which is a nice aesthetic touch. They do not include any other identifying marks that link them to a groupset (which has some benefits). More specifically, these levers may be worth consideration for those restoration projects that include Shimano components, but not necessarily a complete groupset or matched components.

I should also mention the steel bar clamp on these levers is marked to accept bar tubing with a diameter in the 23.8 mm to 24.2 mm range, which should cover nearly all drop bars on the market (which are generally made with bar tubing that measures 23.8 mm in diameter). Lastly, I can confirm the weight of these levers is fairly light at 206 grams (for the set) per our digital postal scale.

Please also note this offering includes matching non-aero cable housing stops. The cable opening at the top of each brake lever (and underneath the rubber hood) measures about 10 mm at it's widest point...a diagonal measurement...and about 8 mm at it's narrowest point...to form an opening that has rounded corners, but resembles a square in shape. On this same topic, we want to clarify that when we say "cable stops" we are not referring to the newer ferrules that are common today, which are typically the same diameter as the cable housing. Many of today's newer levers have built-in cable stops, so smaller ferrules are all that is needed. However, for many of these old stock brake levers (these levers included), a separate oversized cable stop is required that will slip over the cable housing...just as do the newer (and smaller) ferrules noted above...with the big difference being that these cable stops "flare-out" at their ends to provide a platform that rests on the top of these vintage brake levers (and underneath the rubber hoods).

As for condition, these levers came to us bulk-packed, so expect some light shopwear (scuffs and scratches), but the levers still show well overall...and the hoods are still soft and pliable. Listing Update...Please note the pictures have been updated to reflect the next set to sell/ship (as we are nearing the end of our stocks in these lever sets with the black hoods). To this end, I can confirm this next set does show fairly well and the hoods are soft/pliable (even though they have a bit of a "chalky" look to them).

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
