Its' design took over 16 drafts, spread over 159 years and was finally adopted in 1935. The Seal incorporated the values of the Founding Fathers and became the inspiration for the Presidential Seal.

The iconic American Bald Eagle holds in his right talon an olive branch; in his left talon it holds a bundle of thirteen arrows which together symbolizes that the United States has a " strong desire for peace but will always be ready for war". The eagle has his head turned toward the olive branch.

The eagle, with its wings outstretched, bears a shield consisting of thirteen red and white stripes, representing the thirteen states, which support the President and Congress signified by the blue bar.
