Painted in 1837 in Bordeaux (during the sitter's guest performance?), it is a rare miniature portrait of the celebrated French dancer and actress Celine Celeste (Mme Celeste). Our additional image provides her biography, as well as other portraits of her.

The author of this qualitative miniature, French artist Eugene Berny D'Ouville the Younger was a son of the very well known miniaturist Charles-Antoine-Claude Berny D'Ouville (1771-1856) and was called in France "Berny fils". He was a pupil of his father and lived, at first, in his native Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne region. He successfully debuted as an exponent in 1828.

Our additional image with clip from the dictionary "Les Peintres en miniature actifs en France 1650-1850" by Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard (published in spring of 2008) provides his newly-researched biography.
