NEW YORK, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Sixteen new millionaires may be created during the 1992 Olympic Winter Games through the unparalleled "Medals & Millions" joint promotion involving Coca-Cola USA and CBS.  One $1 million grand prize will be available to consumers during each of CBS's 16 days of coverage of the Winter Games from Albertville, France, it was announced today.

Consumers can claim the $1 million prize by matching a "Watch and Win" number to be broadcast each night, Saturday, Feb. 8, through Sunday, Feb. 23.  The grand prizes are part of a $40 million prize package available to consumers.

The promotion will be supported by a multi-million dollar national broadcast and print campaign as well as in-store displays at thousands of locations.

"Medals & Millions is a key element of CBS's far-reaching advertising and promotion campaign for our coverage of the Winter Games," said George F. Schweitzer, senior vice president, Marketing and Communications, CBS/Broadcast Group.  "It's a 'best of both worlds' scenario where the combined strengths of marketing partners work to mutual benefit.

"This Coca-Cola/CBS marketing alliance has the dual strategic objectives of extending and enhancing the value of Coca-Cola's media commitment to CBS's coverage of the Winter Olympics and building awareness of CBS's broadcast schedule for the event."

Beginning in January, Medals & Millions game pieces will be available with specially marked two- and three-liter bottles and 12-ounce can multi-packs of Coca-Cola products.

Games pieces offer two ways to play and win.  On each piece, a number is printed which, if broadcast on CBS during the Games, means a $1 million prize.  (Payable as $50,000 per year over 20 years.)

In addition to the Watch and Win number, each game piece features a "Match and Win" component.  Each game piece lists a country name, an Olympic event and medal level.  If athletes from the listed country win the corresponding medal in the corresponding event, consumers win prizes ranging from cash to Olympic pins.

"Medals & Millions breaks new ground in our 64-year association with the Olympic Games," said Pierre Ferrari, senior vice president, Marketing, Coca-Cola USA.  "This promotion allows us to enhance the value of our long-standing relationship with the Olympics in a highly impactful and exciting way."

First edition sets of U.S. Olympic Collector Cards, featuring members of the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, also will be included with Medals & Millions game pieces, in sets of three inside specially marked multi-packs.  Television advertising for the promotion is scheduled to begin in January.
