WHAT IS RED RUBBER GREASE?
RED RUBBER GREASE is a special rubber compatible grease for use on hydraulic brake and clutch components, where hardening or swelling of rubber must be avoided. Useful in assembly of rubber components for brake, clutch and suspension units. It is manufactured from castor oil and a bentone thickener with a red dye added for identification, and with additives for corrosion and oxidation resistance. Red Rubber Grease replaces the product GRR(B) Grease. Red Rubber Grease meets the Lucas Girling TS-2-34-04 automotive brake specification.

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS IN RED RUBBER GREASE?
"Castor oil" is a fully natural vegetable oil extracted from castor beans from the castor oil plant (ricinus communis). Because it is a natural oil with a very high percentage of a single fatty acid, ricinoleic acid, castor oil does not affect rubbers and plastics the way mineral and petroleum derived oils typically do, and even though it is a natural oil it is highly stable and resistant to degradation making it an ideal oil used to formulate lubricants that are in contact with rubbers and elastomers including synthetic rubbers. The "bentone" thickener is a micro-fine powder derived from a common mineral clay called bentonite that is found in abundance in many parts of the world. Because it is a mineral powder, the bentone thickener does not have a "dropping point" like conventional greases that use thickeners that have a melting or softening point, such as lithium greases and calcium complex greases. These two major advantages make red rubber grease uniquely suited for lubrication of rubber components.

IF RED RUBBER GREASE IS SO GREAT, CAN I USE IT IN OTHER APPLICATIONS?
Red rubber greases in general are intended for applications involving lubrication of natural rubber and synthetic rubber parts. The castor oil, being a natural fatty acid, is not as good as high quality mineral and petroleum oils for metal-to-metal lubrication, and red rubber greases are not formulated with high contact pressure additives or other ingredients that would make them useful for lubricating bearings or other metal-to-metal contact applications. As a result, red rubber greases must NOT be used in metal-to-metal contact applications or applications involving rotating components and high contact pressure of the components, or any other applications that are not specifically indicated by the red rubber grease manufacturer.
