Antique French Rococo Sterling Silver Clad Carving Set,

Gargoyle, Chimera, Dragon, 19th Century

This extraordinary, and unusual, antique French sterling silver clad carving set is beautifully designed in a Rococo pattern and has a distinctive safety guard on the fork in the shape of a chimera or gargoyle. The handles are sterling silver clad, the blade of the knife is steel and the upper part of the fork is chrome and silver plated. The handles are monogrammed with the interlaced initials “M” and “C” inside a cartouche. The beautifully curved blade of the knife is stamped “Paris” and “Déposé”.  Each piece bears the French “Minerve Premier Titre” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. The Minerve Premier Titre is the guarantee that the sterling is at least 95% silver. Each piece also bear the maker’s mark which is not completely legible. Both pieces are in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches and very tiny dents on the handles, some darkening on the blade of the knife and slight signs of wear on the upper part of the fork, not unusual for pieces of this age. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page. This ensemble will be a prestigious addition to your table or your collection.
