An Antique Japanese Papier Mache Dragon Box.
Meiji Peiod.
A charming antique Japanese box featuring an abalone dragon and pearl of wisdom pattern dating from the late Meiji period.
This rare little box is raised on a square plinth. The base and sides are finished in dark brown lacquer. The lid shows a three toed abalone dragon with red lacquer flame bursts surrounded by abalone pearls. The edge of the lid is decorated with stylised clouds in orange lacquer. The interior of the box is finished in red lacquer.
Dimensions: The box measures 6cm x 6cm x 2.5cm.
Weight: 27g's.
Condition: The case is in good antique condition. It is clean, the lacquer is bright and the abalone has a nice lustre. There are no significant dents or cracks. There are very minor surface marks from age and use. There is some age related crazing to the lacquer. The interior is clean.
