Metric PVC Industrial Pressure Pipe Fittings

Our Grey PVC Pipe Fittings are designed with female socket connections for sliding over the ends of unthreaded male pipes (Also available in this listing). Can be fitted together dry or sealed for liquid with a solvent cement.

PVC Pipe and Fittings are suited to many applications. They are probably the most widely used plastic pipe systems in industrial pressure applications and are found in the water treatment, swimming pool, ponds (including koi), irrigation, hydroponics, biogas, Fishkeeping, fish tanks research systems, wet labs, cooling, heating, chemical and process industries to name but a few.

Quality assurance: This product is WRAS Approved - for drinking water.

Please note, pipe may come with a socket end, for joining lengths together. We give no guarantee whether or not the pipe length you receive will have a socket end.

Size Guide:

12mm Fitting =  Designed to take 12mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 12mm
16mm Fitting =  Designed to take 16mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 16mm
20mm Fitting = Designed to take 20mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 20mm
25mm Fitting = Designed to take 25mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 25mm
32mm Fitting =  Designed to take 32mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 32mm
40mm Fitting = Designed to take 40mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 40mm
50mm Fitting = Designed to take 50mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 50mm
63mm Fitting = Designed to take 63mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 63mm
75mm Fitting = Designed to take 75mm pipe, which has an Outside Diameter of 75mm

Reducing bushes: These go inside a fitting to then take a smaller pipe: eg. 32:25mm goes inside a 32 mm fitting, enabling it to take a 25mm pipe.

Tank Connectors:

Our metric tank connectors have a fixed nut at one end. This has two advantages; firstly it makes sealing much easier as there is no risk of fluid travelling along the thread, and secondly as there is only one nut to tighten, installation, especially by one person, is far easier.

Our metric tank connectors - sometimes also called "bulkheads" - have a dual socket (ie: a glue socket on each side) and a single spigot on the plain end.

THREADS: The threads on our metric tank connectors are male BSP parallel ones. Although the primary use of a PVC tank connector is to facilitate an outlet from a tank, some users may wish to thread a fitting onto the "inside" male thread. If this is the case, please be sure that the fitting you are threading on is a parallel thread, and not a tapered one. If in doubt, feel free to contact our technical team and they will be only too happy to advise.

20/25mm x 3/4" : 20mm socket on both sides and a single 25mm spigot on the plain side. Hole size of 27mm (min) required for threaded end. BSP 3/4" Thread.

25/32mm x 1" : 25mm socket on both sides and a single 32mm spigot on the plain side. Hole size of 35mm (min) required for threaded end. BSP 1" Thread.

32/40mm x 1 1/4" : 32mm socket on both sides and a single 40mm spigot on the plain side. Hole size of 43mm (min) required for threaded end. BSP 1 1/4" Thread.

40/50mm x 1 3/4" : 40mm socket on both sides and a single 50mm spigot on the plain side. Hole size of 54mm (min) required for threaded end. BSP 1 3/4" Thread.

50/63mm x 2" : 50mm socket on both sides and a single 63mm spigot on the plain side. Hole size of 60mm (min) required for threaded end. BSP 2" Thread.

63/75mm x 2 1/2" : 63mm socket on both sides and a single 75mm spigot on the plain side. Hole size of 76mm (min) required for threaded end. 2 1/2" BSP Thread.

Metric PVC Pipe:

Our Pipe is made of PVC (U-PVC/PVC-U). Use with our Grey sockets and fittings, dry or sealed with a solvent cement for liquid. Also compatible with Clear PVC Pipe and Fittings. Pipe always goes inside a plain socket fitting.

Size Guide:

Unlike it's Imperial (inch) cousin, the metric pvc pipe system is measured on and accords to the precise outside diameter of the pipe. Like most things metric it is a more logical and easier to understand system. That is to say, a 50mm metric pipe will measure 50mm outside diameter, a 63mm will measure 63mm etc.

The table below gives details of metric pipe dimensions:

Pipe Size Outside Diameter mm Approx. Internal Diameter (mm) Wall thickness 10 bar (mm)

 20mm  20 18 1
 25mm  25 22.5 1.25
 32mm  32 28.4 1.8
 40mm  40 36.2 1.9
 50mm  50 45.2 2.4
 63mm  63 57 3
 75mm  75 67.8 3.6

Techtalk:

Most applications operate way below 10 bar pressure and so this is by far the most widely used. Industries such as water treatment, pool, and leisure, aquaculture, industrial process/factory lines etc. operate with maximums of 3-5 bar pressure. It is often thought that just because a system has a pump it must be very high pressure, but in truth, most pump systems operate a just a few bar pressure. 16 bar pipe is usually only used in very specific high pressure industrial applications such as jet wash lines, high head hydropower schemes etc.

Pressure conversion - to pump water vertically by 10m requires 1 bar.

Metric PVC Pipe has an operational range of between zero and sixty degrees centigrade (32 - 140 degrees F), although operation at zero centigrade is not recommended, especially where there is a risk of impact or stresses to the pipe. PVC pipe becomes increasingly brittle at lower temperatures and more prone to damage from impact.

About Us:
Plastic Pipe Shop Ltd are UK stockists and distributors of industrial PVC, ABS, CPVC and PE pressure pipe and fittings, and PVC and PPS Vent Pipe Systems. One of the very early adopters of internet shopping cart systems, the company has been supplying industrial thermoplastics both on and offline since 2004. Our sales team are all either one time professional pipefitters or pipe system designers. This enables us to provide sound and practical advice - if you're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, our guys have probably tried before and can tell you how to best manage it.
