Product Description:

Listing Update...we have decided to significantly reduce the price of these LOOK branded saddles, because of concerns over cover wear. More specifically, there is a concern that more then an acceptable percentage of the saddle covers will pull apart at the stitching where the black cover meets the nylon-like mesh (blue accents) at the rear of the saddle.  The problem is not so much the stitching itself, but more the nylon mesh, as the latter will sometimes begin to unravel or pull apart at the stitching. We are not able to provide a good estimate as to when this will occur...as some covers appear to hold up better than others (even though all of these saddle covers initially look fine). As a result, we've assumed a conservative position by not profiting on the sale of any of these saddles. Having said all of this, it's probably also worth noting these saddles have been in storage for nearly 20 years, so to the extent the cover material on my remaining stocks has yet to pull apart during this extended storage period, may be an indicator these saddle covers will hold up for a reasonable amount of time. I cannot say for sure, but still thought the observation was worth noting here.

Original Listing...
This offering is for a new-old-stock LOOK branded saddle made by Gipiemme. These saddles are a little newer then some of the other models we carry, but the design was different enough from anything we have in stock, that we wanted to bring them to market.  The cover is primarily black with blue accents, which include a nylon-like mesh at the rear edges and stitching in the shape of a pair of lighting bolts that extends (nearly) the length of the saddle. The rear of the saddle is anatomically designed with a cut-out section and there is some high-density foam padding (and probably a little more then we would have thought given the design and fairly low profile of the saddle). Make no mistake, this is still a racing-style saddle, so there is not a lot of padding here, but still ample amounts relative to some other saddles in this category. Some additional specs/details include the following...

  • Dimensions (Length x Width): 275 mm x 150 mm (with the latter measured from the widest point...near the back of the saddle)

  • Weight: 290 grams (per our digital postal scale)

  • Rail material: chromoly steel

  • Rail width: 43 mm (see discussion that follows regarding rail width)

  • Production date: 2000

  • Production locale: Made in Italy

These saddles came to us bulk-packed, but still show fairly well...so few visible cosmetic blemishes (i.e., few marks on the cover). Having said this, we wanted to briefly describe the stitching that secures the rear nylon-mesh sections to the smooth black cover. If you scan the close-up picture of this nylon-mesh section, you will note very small/faint marks in the smooth black cover that run parallel to the stitching that secures these two cover parts. These marks must be a function of the sewing machine used to make these covers, as they (the marks) are systemic and in the same location on every saddle.  While on the topic of the stitching, please refer to the "listing update" above, as we have become aware of some cover wear concerns. For this reason (and as discussed in more detail above), we do not feel comfortable profiting from the sale of these saddles...which explains the significant discount from our original pricing.

A note about rail width...
We have always assumed saddle rail widths were relatively standard...44 mm for a standard road/mtb saddle and 30 mm for a track saddle (center-to-center measurements). However, we are beginning to understand there is some variability concerning saddle rail widths that we would have expected to measure 44 mm. The variations are not significant...maybe +/- 3 mm from the 44 mm expected width...and we realize there is some flex to saddle rails...but the variations may still make installation a chore at times. For this reason, we are now providing a center-to-center rail width measurement on our saddles.

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
