Product Description:

This offering is for new Nema Gem ATB shorts in a women's x-small. These olive colored shorts appear to be very good quality with a 100% nylon outer shell and a blended (90% polyester and 10% lycra) liner that also includes a padded center and elastic leg openings. The elastic waist is substantial and to the point where I don't know if you would ever need a draw cord (but there is one around the waist as well). Then there are the zipper pockets on both sides, which is another nice feature. I've been asked to compare these Nema branded shorts to the Mt. Borah branded shorts we also have available. To this end, I would say they are both bike shop quality shorts, but I would give the nod to the Nema brand. The materials appear a bit heavier and I believe the attention to detail and workmanship is a notch above some of the competition. I don't know what they retailed for in a bicycle shop, but my best guess is the selling price was near double our listed price.

Additionally, and in an attempt to assist with proper fit, we took the following measurements...

  • Outseam (overall length): 16" (inches)

  • Inseam: 5" (inches)

  • Waist (relaxed): 22" (inches)

  • Waist (stretched, but not to the max...see note below): 26" (inches)

  • Additional note: The relaxed waist measurement is as suggested...with the garment laid flat on the table and the measurement taken without any expansion of the elastic waist.  On the other hand, the stretched measurement is the result of expanding the waist by a reasonable amount to better understand it's elasticity.  It's also worth noting we are able to gain additional inches by stretching the elastic waist further, but at some point we believe the additional "stretch" becomes uncomfortable to wear.  In other words, the "stretched" measurement noted above is one that is easily attained with little effort...so it's our best guess that any waist measurement in the range noted above would be a comfortable fit.  I would also venture that our stretched measurement may be a bit conservative in that these shorts may still comfortably fit around a slightly larger waist, but anything more than a few inches and we would think a larger size might be more comfortable.

One other comment regarding these shorts is to make sure each potential customer understands the nature of the inner lining.  This is not a brief-style liner, but more like a bicycle short-style liner with a padded center section.  I usually try to illustrate this fact by taking a couple of pictures where we pull out the liner and hang the shorts by the elastic leg openings (so that folks may get a better sense of the liner and it's overall length relative to the outer shell of these shorts).  Although, in the case of these shorts, the bicyle short-style liner is sewn into the shell in multiple places, so the liner waist and legs cannot be pulled out through the waist area for pictures. Now I can tell you this bicycle short-style liner is similar to the liner we see in the Nema Bijou model shorts (so you may want to look at that listing to get a better sense of the bicycle short-style liner sewn into these Nema Gem shorts). We hope this is helpful, as we understand the difficulty in buying technical apparel online.

In terms of condition, these are new shorts and I see very little in the way of dirt marks, fabric blemishes or stitching imperfections...so a first quality offering in our opinion. Although, if we are mistaken, then please do not hesitate to return the shorts for a refund, as we really do want satisfied customer.

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
