Listing Update...

Shimano 600EX Non-Aero Brake Levers...We have now tried these hoods on a couple of non-aero Shimano 600EX levers (model BL-6207 and BL-6208) and the fit is fairly good. The only problem we see (and it's fixable) is the hoods tend to lip over the top of the lever a little too far. In other words, when the levers are squeezed and then released...on the release and recoil of the lever where it "snaps" back into an upright position...the lever will actually catch/rub on the edge/lip of the hood on the recoil. Our best guess is a minor modification of this area of the hood by cutting away a very small arc-shaped piece of the rubber would elminate this problem. A customer has since confirmed this thought with the following comment..."You are right, as there is some interference - a Dremel tool does a fast and nice job of reshaping the cutout area to eliminate the interference."

Shimano Dura-Ace Non-Aero Brake Levers...We have also had a number of customers buy these hoods with the intent on mounting them on old stock non-aero Dura-Ace brake levers (model BL-7400) and so far the feedback has been the fit is acceptable (not perfect...but functional). We had one customer return the hoods saying the fit was not quite good enough and that he was not comfortable reshaping the cutout area on his own, as described above by a different customer. We have not tried these hoods on a pair of non-aero Dura-Ace levers yet, so we cannot provide you with our own specific fit details, but it appears the fit problems with the Dura-Ace levers are similar to those identified with the 600EX levers noted above.

Please also keep in mind that even as it relates to small items like these hoods...we maintain customer friendly return policy (as described further below) that includes a full purchase price refund for returned product for any reason.  So in the event you try these hoods on brake levers other than the factory designated matches below (so presumably one of the brake levers identified above) and the fit is not acceptable, then just return the brake hoods in their original packaging for a refund.

Original Listing...

This is a pair of new-old-stock Shimano brake lever hoods (black) in the non-aero design (which means the brake cables will "exit" at the top of the levers...for a classic look). They appear to be a second generation brake lever hood in the sense they have some anatomic shape to them...meaning there is a "right" and "left" hood and they have molded design features intended to provide a better fit (relative to earlier model brake lever hoods that typically have more of a uniform/universal design). The differences are subtle, but there is a slight build-up of rubber material and an anatomic/contoured design that compliments this material build-up on the outside of each hood...so the side of each hood where your fingers will wrap around the brake lever body. This is in contrast to the inside (or "thumb-side") of the hoods, which does not have this material build-up or subtle anatomic shape. Please understand, these design features are subtle at best, so please do not expect the anatomic shape found on today's dual control shifter/brake levers, but we thought the design characteristics of these hoods were still worth noting.

Our old Shimano shop catalogs indicate these rubber hoods are compatible with three of Shimano's non-series and non-aero brake levers (and when we say "non-series", we mean these levers were not marketed with one of Shimano's more prominent group sets). More specifically, the compatible lever models include the BL-Z326 and BL-Z306 (both of which are drilled levers with two columns of rectangular holes) and the BL-Z325 and BL-Z304 (both of which are solid levers with no drilled holes of any sort).  Additionally, please note some of these levers were designed to accommodate an optional extension lever that would bolt-on to the inside of each lever body.  I mention this, because this bolt-on extension requires a cut-out in the brake hood and the model brake hood offered herein does not include that cut-out (so this brake hood is not a good choice for one of the above brake lever models if extension levers are also in use).  Regarding the latter, we do have equivalent brake hoods with the cut-outs for extension levers offered under a different listing.

As for locating the model number on these levers, we find that most of the levers have the model number stamped on the side...near where the lever attaches to the lever body (and just above the pivot point). Usually the markings are not very big, and if there are hoods on the brake lever bodies, then you may have to pull them back a little to view the markings on the edge of the levers where they attach (or are hinged) to the brake lever bodies.  Lastly, please do not attempt to use these hoods with any of Shimano's newer dual control shifter/brake levers, as we are fairly certain they will not work very well, if at all, as we believe these hoods were made solely for older (and specific) Shimano non aero brake levers (as discussed above).

With respect to condition, these hoods are new and in their original packaging (so still factory-fresh and pliable with no signs of age cracking).

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
