Product Description:
Listing Update...We want to emphasize these are newer stock freewheel units and best characterized as entry-level units relative to our vintage Suntour models that sell for a much higher price. Without getting into all the technical details/differences, these freewheels simply do not spin as well as the vintage Suntour models (although, the shift-ramp technology present on this particular HyperGlide freewheel is probably a superior tooth design). We are not trying to dissuade customers from considering this freewheel offering, but please do not expect similar quality relative to our Suntour models...so in this particular case...pricing is a fairly good indicator of relative quality. This item for sale is a new Shimano 6-speed HyperGlide freewheel (Model MF-HG22) that includes a 14-16-18-21-24-28 cluster. It is index (or as Shimano used to call it, "SIS") shifting capable and the individual teeth incorporate Shimano's newer HyperGlide technology. Also please note this is a freewheel, which means it will screw onto an English threaded rear hub (and will not work with a splined freehubs). A note about new production Shimano freewheels...We have always been told (and confirmed through references at various websites that we trust) that Shimano effectively exited the UniGlide market in the late 80's and the freewheel markets in the late 80's or early 90's in favor of their more popular HyperGlide cassette designs that appear to be an industry standard in today's market. However, since this particular freewheel has a newer production date, it appears a limited number of freewheel options are still in current production (or at least production ceased at a much later date than the early 90's). In any event, and regardless of Shimano's more recent freewheel production schedule, these units are a very good value in a name brand freewheel.
