Product Description:

This offering is for new-old-stock black AXO cycling shoes. I have probably been storing these shoes in our warehouse for around 10 years and I would guess they were already 10+ years removed from production when I acquired them. So if I had to guess, I would peg their vintage to the 90's.

This is the Turbo model that is made from a combination of genuine leather and a mesh (that is likely made from synthetic materials) with nice red/orange/yellow/white accents and labeling. I should also note there is a lot of double stitching in the areas where the various pieces of leather material are joined to make these shoes. Lastly, I wanted to point out the somewhat unique design that includes two features for securing your feet in the shoes. First there are the traditional laces that are mostly hidden and then there are the straps that secure over the laces. The combination of the two makes for a clean, aero-like appearance and certainly a secure fit.

The inner sole is made from genuine leather and is anchored to a hard plastic outer sole that is quite stiff.  Turning the shoes over, you will see two pre-drilled holes...one at the bottom of the toebox and the other around the midpoint of the external sole (and this latter hole is adjustable). These two holes will accommodate old-style cleats designed to be used with traditional clipped and toe strapped pedals...which probably speaks to the vintage of these shoes (and note the old style two-bolt cleats for traditional clipped and strapped pedals are included).

In terms of sizing, they are a size 36 (Euro). Although, for those not very familiar with European sizing (and please include us in this group), we measured the outer dimensions of these shoes using our digital calipers and noted their length was (215 mm or 21.5 cm) and their width...at the widest part of the toebox...was (74 mm or 7.4 cm). We also scanned a few shoe sizing/conversion charts and noted that while cycling shoe manufactures size their shoes somewhat differently, a size 36 (Euro) typically translates into a youth size 4 to 4 1/2 (or a slightly smaller men's size, if such information were published in sizing charts) or a women's size 5 1/2. Having said all of this about sizing, I have since been told AXO shoes tend to run a bit small, so please keep this mind when considering your proper shoe size in this brand/model.

As for condition, these shoes are new-old-stock and still retail boxed. Listing Update...The age of these shoes means the adhesive that binds the outer sole to the synthetic upper will likely fail at some point. A few customers have indicated this to be a problem, but a relatively easy fix with the application of some new adhesive. Other customers have taken the shoes to a shoe repair shop to have this work done, and the prices have ranged between $10 and $15 (to re-glue the shoes back together). So please understand these shoes will require some attention (given their age) at a later date. This also explains why we are now selling these shoes below our cost (and listing them as "new with defects").

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
