Joseph Bergler The Younger was a very well-known Austrian historical painter of the turn of the 19th century. He first studied with his father Joseph Bergler who was a renowned sculptor and painter and then studied the great Italian masters in Milan and Rome during 1776-86. In 1800 Bergler became professor of the newly founded Prague Academy of Arts and later in 1815 its principal. Besides his activities at the Academy, he extensively worked as historical painter.
Condition: In good overall condition, trace of restored foxing in central area, unframed.
