Hippolyte Chapon was born ca. 1790 in Switzerland. He is first mentioned in 1817 in Paris as "peintre en miniature et Cent-Suisse du Roi" ("Cent-Suisse" was a "Swiss Hundred Guard" engaged by the French Court - see our image nr.12).
Between 1832 and 1838 he was repeatedly mentioned as "Chapon, peintre en miniature, Palais-Royal, galerie de pierre (galerie Montpensier), no.65".
