Exceptionally rare, ca. 1780, Rauenstein porcelain coffee service comprised of lidded coffee pot, lidded creamer, covered sugar, and 4 sets of handleless cups and saucers.

Decorated in exuberant, stylized flowers in magenta/purple. Both coffee pot and creamer have fluted bodies. Most have purple overglazed "R" mark on underside (Rauenstein factory mark) and a few have blue underglazed "R" marks.

There's an example of an identically patterned cup and saucer on the Met Museum website.

About Rauenstein: One of the numerous Thuringian factories of the late 18th century in Germany. Unlike Meissen and KPM, whose output was focused on, and priced for, the aristocracy, Rauenstein was intended for the well-heeled middle classes.

Condition

Excellent with the exception of coffee pot, which has a few areas of hairlines--inside spout, underside, lower body and base of handle. Please refer to the last 4 photos.
