1940s/50s era “veldtschoen” country shoes by Saxone.
 

UK size 8 (Euro 42)


No size markings but they fit me perfectly and I wear a UK 8


Brown Zug grain waterproof leather uppers. Leather soles, insoles and lining. Bellows tongue. Still have the correct mid-century laces with metal tips.


Overall very good condition. Some slight damage to top back from not using a shoe horn - linings have split a little, and there is a tiny (1/8”) split to the leather on right shoe. Not visible in use, and if you use a shoe horn it shouldn’t get any worse.


Kilmarnock based Saxone were a major manufacturer of quality footwear from 1908 to 1962, when they were absorbed by the British Shoe Corporation. They ceased making shoes of this quality soon after the BSC takeover, struggled throughout the 1970s and 80s, and finally folded in 1996 (though the name lives on as a zombie brand owned by Barratts). These will have been made before the BSC takeover in 1962.
