A customer recently
asked if we could make a nicer mini-humbucker adapter ring than the
cheap ones you usually see available that are simply cut from a piece of
pickguard material. Well, here it is!
This ring makes it
possible to mount a modern sized Gibson mini-humbucker into a standard
Gibson full-size humbucker rout while retaining the look of a taller
molded ring.
This listing is for a flat bottom, slanted, medium
height ring. You'd use this on flat top electrics with a neck
angle.
The
ring is machined from a solid piece of black ABS plastic- the same type
of plastic used in other rings, pickguards, and knobs. They are roughly
7/32" thick at the rear tapering to about 1/8" in the front.
The footprint and mounting are the same as Gibson's
standard full size humbucker rings. There are two sizes of mini-humbuckers: the
smaller vintage Gibson size which includes modern Dimarzio and Seymour
Duncan versions, and a larger modern Gibson size which includes current
Gibson, Epiphone, and most of the mini humbuckers made in foreign
factories. The smaller size will fit in this ring but there will be a
noticeable gap on the sides by the adjustment screws. The approximate
size of the pickups that this ring was made to fit are 2 21/32" by 1
3/32".
OK, I machine and polish these by hand. This takes a fair
amount of time and effort, but they aren't as blemish free and perfectly
shiny as a good injection molded part. If you look in really good light
you can see some swirl marks and handling marks. Have a look at the
photos, they look pretty good, but again, these are handmade. They're
still a lot nicer than anything else I've found!
The guitar in
the photos is our trusty Gibson SGJ, and the pickups shown are recent
Gibson Firebird mini-humbuckers. Obviously, neither the guitar nor
pickups are included. This listing is for a single medium height ring
only.
