ANTIQUE MEISSEN "SENSE OF SMELL"
PORCELAIN FIGURINE

Up for auction is a wonderful antique figurine made by the famed Meissen porcelain factory in Germany. The figurine is referred to by collectors as "Sense of Smell" and is part of a series of 5 figurines that portray the senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. First modeled by Johann Carl Schönheit in 1772, each sense is personified by a seated young woman in a pose that depicts her using one of the 5 senses. This one shows a woman seated at a table smelling a bouquet of flowers. The table also has a basket of flowers and a perfume flask sitting on top.

This figurine stands about 5 3/8" tall and the base measures approximately 4" x 3 3/16". It's extremely well detailed with delicate flowers and lace. It was exquisitely hand-painted by one of the talented Meissen artists. The underside of the base is marked with an underglaze blue crossed sword mark that has small beads at the ends of the handles (first used in 1815). It also has an incised script "E5" mark (model number) and the impressed number "124" (painter number). The Five Senses is one of the most beloved Meissen sets, and each figurine exhibits the magnificent artistry for which this renowned firm is so celebrated.

I purchased this figurine at a recent estate sale. It was likely made during the early to mid 1800's. This figurine is guaranteed to be a genuine antique Meissen piece and not a reproduction. Please check my positive feedback and bid with confidence from a trusted seller.

In the 300+ years since Meissen was established by King Augustus the Strong in 1710, Europe’s first porcelain manufactory has evolved into an international luxury and lifestyle brand. The company is defined by stylishly royal elegance and an uncompromising aspiration to quality. Meissen creations are treasured in all the world’s leading museums and regularly fetch top prices at international auctions. They get passed on and cherished from generation to generation for centuries - both as a precious memory of the past and as an investment in the future.

Condition of this Meissen "Sense of Smell" figurine is VERY GOOD, especially considering that it's 150+ years old and has so many fragile details. I noticed a shallow flake along the top edge of the table (see last photo). If you look extremely close, you can also find a few chipped leaf tips and possibly a missing flower petal. Overall, however, this incredibly detailed figurine looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. I'm confident you'll be very pleased with this purchase.

If you collect Meissen figurines, don't miss your opportunity to bid on this offering. Pieces from the Five Senses series rarely come up for sale, especially on eBay. My start price of only $9.99 (WITH NO RESERVE) is a ridiculous bargain and intended to spark interest. I've seen this same figurine in similar condition sell as high as $1726 (eBay 2012). So bid now while the price is right and check back often. This figurine WILL be sold to the highest bidder!
