Description: A unique item. This is a very nice copy of the very scarce book of cat photographs, Sam, by Edward Quigley, published in 1937. Pasted down to the inside front cover is a 9.5 by 7.5 inch photograph by Carl van Vechten of the actress Ann Andrews holding what appears to be the same cat. The photograph bears the copyright mark of the Ira L Hill studio. Opposite the photograph is the pencilled name "Ann Andrews" and below that the pencilled inscription "1939 Carl van Vechten". Also pasted down are a cat poem, a cartoon, and a further cat photo.

Original hardback in original dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is in attractive condition with wear to edges and split to spine (see pictures). The book itself is in very nice condition, with a little fading to the edges (see pictures).  Binding sound and square. Internally clean and bright. A unique item. Carl van Vechten was a cat lover and iconic photographer. Ann Andrews was a major stage star in the 20s and 30s, and the star of two silent movies.
