If your engine is misfiring it is most often a defective coil pack but the second leading cause is a faulty spark plug. 

Both failures will feel similar to the driver.  Other symtoms that a driver may feel is a rough idle, or general lack of power particularly when trying to accelerate. 

If you have any of these symtoms and a check engine light comes on, for sure you need to test or replace one or more of your coil packs. 

Typically, you can unplug one at a time while the car is at idle to determine which one is bad.

When installing these coil packs, the female electrical connector from the harness must be completely seated into the ignition coil before the connector locking mechanism is rotated into place.
