History of Tudor:

Formed in 1946 by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, Tudor was intended to be a brand providing more affordable watches that remained faithful to the high standards for which Rolex was renowned.

“For some years now I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standards of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the Tudor Watch Company.”

This was March 6, 1946 and Hans Wilsdorf, the author of these words is a leading figure in the world of Swiss watchmaking and distinguished for having created Rolex in the first decade of the 20th century. In this statement, he officially unveils not only Tudor, but also the positioning and communications strategy he has in mind for the brand.

His intuition was simple and well placed since at that time the wristwatch market was expanding along with its development. The public was also ready to recognize and appreciate a reasonably priced watch that not only had all the technical, aesthetic and functional characteristics but also had guaranteed distribution by a brand like Rolex, already known worldwide for the quality of its production.

VINTAGE WATCHES ARE GENERATING MORE INTEREST OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS SINCE COLLECTORS REALIZE AND APPRECIATE THEIR QUALITY. THE GOOD LOOKING VINTAGE ONES ARE BEING SNAPPED UP AND ADDED TO COLLECTIONS AND ARE BEING WORN. THESE VINTAGE WATCHES ARE A BARGAIN WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE COST OF PRODUCING A COMPARABLE WATCH WITH A HIGH GRADE MOVEMENT. THIS IS A VERY NICE EXAMPLE OF A VINTAGE SWISS WATCH WHICH WOULD MAKE AN INTERESTING EXAMPLE FOR ANY COLLECTION OR JUST BE FUN TO WEAR AS YOUR PERSONAL TIMEPIECE.

BECAUSE OLDER, VINTAGE, WRISTWATCHES WERE MADE SMALLER THAN WATCHES MADE TODAY, MEN OR WOMEN CAN WEAR THIS AND WOULD LOOK FABULOUS.

Vintage watches may gain or lose a small amount of time per day as they do not keep quartz accuracy. Also, because most vintage watches being offered are between 40-70 years old, small imperfections, scratches, and wear are to be expected.

A Word About Mechanical Watches:  All mechanical watches, whether manual or automatic wind, will need periodic servicing simply due to the friction of its moving parts. Generally, I do not know the service history of pre-owned watches I sell unless I have had the watch serviced and noted in the listing. I time all watches for at least 24 hours prior to listing and 12 hours prior to shipment. If it doesn't maintain acceptable accuracy I don't list it or I won't ship it and the buyer will receive a refund.

Water resistance is not guaranteed on vintage or pre-owned wristwatches. Have seals and gaskets checked by a watchmaker before submerging in water, swimming, or showering.

IT IS MY HOPE THAT ALL OF MY ITEMS WILL GO TO PEOPLE WHO WILL ENJOY THEM. I WILL GLADLY ACCEPT A RETURN AND/OR TAKE CARE OF A PROBLEM IF I MAKE A GROSS ERROR IN THE DESCRIPTION. IF I HAVE MADE NO GROSS ERRORS, THE ITEM IS A FINAL SALE. THIS IS MERELY DUE TO THE ITEMS BEING ANTIQUES, VINTAGE, OR PRE-OWNED.
