Blackjacks and Bombards are a very English tradition and were used as tankards and pouring jugs.  The tankards are known as "BlackJacks"; the larger vessels/jugs are known as "bombards".


Formed on a mould from wet leather, earlier examples were then stitched together.


This example was made as a jug during the 19thC.


Condition - as per images. With wonderful patination gathered through age.
