Künstler / Verleger: Pieter van der Aa, auch Peter van der Aa, (* 1659 in Leiden; † August 1733 ebenda) war ein niederländischer Buchdrucker, Verleger, Buchhändler und Kupferstecher. Details: Zum Verkauf steht eine sehr große, originale, prächtig hand-kolorierte Kupferstich-Ansicht von Tokio, der Hauptstadt von Japan. Es handelt sich um eine der größten und schönsten frühen Ansichten der Stadt. Zur Zeit des Druckes hieß Tokio Edo und war mit ca. einer Million Einwohner die größte Stadt der Welt.
Kräftiger Abzug auf Bütten mit Wasserzeichen.
Plattengröße: ca. 77.5 x 29 cm / Blattgröße: ca. 83 x 35.5 cm Zustand: - ca. 10 winzige Wurmlöchlein, kleine hinterlegte Wurmspur im Himmel unter dem Titel, Enden der Faltstellen teils geklebt - sonst sehr gut erhalten, kräftiger Druck und prachtvolles Kolorit

Artist / Publisher: Pieter van der Aa (Leiden, 1659 - Leiden, August 1733) was a Dutch publisher best known for preparing maps and atlases, though he also printed pirated editions of foreign bestsellers and illustrated volumes.
Title: "Iedo. Capitale du Iapon." Details: For sale is a very large original, beautifully hand-coloured copper engraving showing Tokyo, the capital of Japan. It is one of the biggest and most beautiful early views of Tokyo. At the time of printing called Edo, it was the biggest city in the world with a population of c. 1.000.000 by 1721.

Plate size: c. 77.5 x 29 cm / leaf size: c. 83 x 35.5 cm Condition: - c. 10 tiny wormholes, small repaired worming in the sky below the title, ends of the folds partly repaired - otherwise very well-preserved, strong print and splendid colouring
