Grading

My grading system for 33 1/3 records is the  NM, E, VG, G .

Near Mint (NM) : Apparently unplayed and showing no signs of wear.

Excellent (E) : Showing only very slight wear.  Vinyl showing only the very slightest of paper scuffs and only a few if any extremely faint scratches.  Nothing that would interfere with play back at all.

Very Good (VG): Showing only slight wear.

Playing surfaces should have minimum of visual or audible imperfections.

Good (G): A misnomer. A “good” record is really not so good.

It shows considerable wear and usage; random mars and light abrasions from a sleeveless existence.

Surface noise may be prominent enough to impair enjoyment of the music.  The album should play through withour skipping.

Plus and minus signs are often suffixed to above grades to indicate a somewhat better or worse grade, when appropriate.
