Presented for your consideration we are offering this unique hand
carved open work celadon serpentine hard stone pen holder and inkwell, from the
early 1900s. This is a lovely and unique
desk accessory, especially for the pen collector "who has
everything."
The well and base are carved The well and base are carved from solid
serpentine mounted with chased bronze mounts, which has traces of the original
gilding. The simple, curved geometry of the well contrasts with the rich
texture of the ornate bronze metal work and the intricately carved stone
vegetation. The hinged lid appears to be copper with a brilliant blue enameled
interior.
The piece is in excellent condition for its age.
There is no damage that I can find. I believe the metal was originally gilded,
which has mostly been worn off with polishing. The hinge has some wobble to it,
as much due to the fact that it is hand made as from wear.
Beautiful hand carved Chinese open work pierced serpentine celadon
hardstone amulet serves as the base for this interesting desk accessory, with a
horizontal bronze pen holder in front of a celadon hardstone and brass inkwell,
with ornate brass border and brass ball feet, and interesting carvings on top and all
around inkwell - just stunning
