Victorian era illustrated print of four girls in period clothing walking across a footbridge carrying wreaths on sticks. In the left corner, their mother holding a baby watches on. Beautifully framed with gold and cream mats and an ornate gold metal frame. Unsigned.

Measurements:

Print only: approximately 4 x 5 inches

Print with mats and metal frame: approx. 12 1/2 x 10 1/4 inches

This illustrated print tells a story. Likely the wreaths that the girls are carrying are funeral wreaths. The lead girl with a serious expression puts a handkerchief to her mouth. There is water as far as the eye can see. Perhaps a loved one died in the water, and the wreaths will be tossed into the water as a final farewell.

The light touch of the illustrator (which is unknown) keeps this image from being morose. It is beautifully framed in cream and gold. There are small tears on the brown paper on the back.

This is a perfect illustration for anyone who collects Victorian prints!
