This is our Main Bearing Spindle Support Pad, which we guarantee will improve the performance of virtually all belt or idler wheel driven turntables!

The first (and worst) point that turntables introduce noise into the system is the main bearing. The entire weight of the platter is carried by a metal to metal contact between the tip of the spindle and the bottom of the main bearing housing. Inevitably noise is generated.

In some cases, like the Rega, the end of the spindle rides on a ball, but the bearing still relies upon metal to metal contact and the problem remains.

The Spindle Support Pad is a small disc of high purity PTFE carefully sized to drop into the bottom of the main bearing housing. It provides an extremely low friction and non-resonant  support for the tip of the spindle, or the ball on which it rides.

The SSP drastically reduces main bearing noise and thereby provides:

* Dramatically improved bass performance

* Cleaner and Clearer sound throughout the entire audible frequency range

* Considerably extended bearing life

Fitting the SPP is a five minute job - simply remove the old oil from the bearing housing, drop it in place, then re-oil. Put a record on, sit back and prepare to be amazed! The SPP will raise the platter by 1mm so, if you are fussy about VTA, you will need to adjust the arm up a fraction. It comes complete with a bottle of our superb black oil.

Just to give you some feedback on the above items.
 
First I have to thank you for the lack of sleep, the number of times I have almost been late for work, the wife considering moving out and the kids being neglected. I have a collection of about 800 records which I now realise I have never heard before, not properly anyway, and, again since Saturday I have yet to listen to any of them all the way through as I have to find out what something else sounds like and impatience gets the better of me. The CD's are collecting dust, and there is no other medium through which I wish to listen to music...nothing else compares. It even makes the - aged - system sound good - Rega P2, NAD 3020i pushing the sounds through to a pair of ancient Leaks.
I would go on, but there is something else to hear, and you are probably quite bored now! But it does feel like someone has removed cotton wool from the system. I do have one small request - can I come back to you in a couple of weeks time for the MVA and PDR?  Had I thought about it this should not have come as a great surprise, but the noise from the motor is that much more evident, so this will have to be dealt with! Funds just don't allow it at the moment, more's the pity, I thought of putting the kids up for sale but 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' objected (principally on the grounds that we still need them to go up the chimneys...fair enough I guess ;-) ) so in the meantime I will savour what I have, fantastic.
 
Oh, and if I can bring myself to stop playing the vinyl for a few minutes I'll tinker with the positioning of the BDR and get back to you on that. Right, Yes? the Stranglers? Thomas Dolby? Ah, ...Purple
