Extremely rare & attractive after Claude Michel Clodion called Clodion ( French 1738-1814)19th century, German Berlin iron
( Berliner Eisen) art decorative figural cast iron platter, depicting
the famous Homer Iliad tail of "Judgment of Paris", which led to
Trojan War. The scene depicting Paris of Troy awarding the golden
apple, from the "Garden of Hesperides", to Aphrodite as fairest one,
instead of Hera or Athena, taking the promise from her, that she will
offer to him the most beautiful woman worldwide, Helen of Sparta,
wife of Menelaus, King of Sparta. Famous Berlin Iron are very desirable
& collectable as they are a very special piece of history. The Prussian
royal family urged all citizens to contribute their gold and silver
towards funding the uprising against Napoleon during the War of
Liberation. In return the people were given iron jewellery and Art
objects. This made all different kinds of Art Objects made of Iron
popular because of its symbolic relationship with a feeling of
patriotism and loyalism. Berlin iron was lacquered black acquired by treating the castings with linseed cakes. No hallmarks and in excellent condition.
