The algae booster is only for professional breeders, not for amateurs. It is not for people who only take care of several shrimps. However, this is an ideal product for people who want to increase the survival rate of juveniles and boost the growth of shrimps in the tank.
Usually, the algae boosters contain fertilizers for algae growth. Therefore, you may see the amount of Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate (NH3/NO2/NO3) spike but only if you overdose. It's safe when you follow precisely the dosage instruction I provide.
This algae booster can be used either at tank initial setup or maintenance. It is mainly for boosting the growth of several beneficial algae in shrimp tanks, such as cotton algae, diatoms, green algae.
Brief Introduction:
The use of algae in the early stage of setting up the new shrimp tank can promote the rapid growth and reproduction of beneficial algae. In the maintenance stage, the algae can absorb excess various organic wastes(left shrimp food, shrimp/fish wastes, etc.) and turn those into inorganic nutrients which can also be consumed by shrimps. Besides, the algae booster provides the new source of algae spores, prevents aging issues, and stabilizes water parameters.
The most significant advantage of algae booster is providing the food source for both adult shrimps and juveniles. As I mention in my blog, the high death rate of juveniles is probably caused by the lack of food source. Juveniles can only take minerals and microorganisms in the tank, especially algae. Providing more algae in the tank means the higher survival rate of juveniles. Well, that's our goal for professional breeding.
How to use algae booster?
Never overdosing! It takes time for algae to grow. Overdoing can only cause spikes of NH3/NO2/NO3 and may cause the death of shrimps in the mature tank.
Use the tank with 30 gallons of water as an example(you can scale the amount of usage).
For new tank when you do the setup:
1. During the initial 2 weeks, you don't need to turn on the light. Let microorganisms and nitrifying bacteria grow.
2. Now from the third week, you can use algae booster. Use 1 gram of algae booster. Adding water to the container and then pour the algae booster into the container, then pour it into the tank. Turn on the light for 24 hours and turn on the air pump.
For matural tank:
1. Add 1 gram for the tank with 30 gallons of water biweekly. Or add 0.5 grams after you do water change.
