* Although there are 2 available, the list price is for 1 door. If you
plan on buying only 1 door, look at the photos, read the description and let us
know which of the 2 you'd like. The first 5 photos show Door#1 and the rest show
Door#2.
Big, antique
doors salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. They are made of solid
Douglas Fir or pine and have a traditional, Victorian style, 5-panel
arrangement with 4 vertical panels divided by a small horizontal panel.
The doors are painted and the panels are raised on both sides.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft
wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same
insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old
pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder
and stronger than young pine.
Hardware:
Neither door is equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of
period hardware to outfit them (check out our eBay store).
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid
wood, please email us for a quote.
Uneven
Size:
Door#1's height and width were unevenly cut by 1/2" at some point, most likely to compensate for
the home's settling foundation or a warped floor. We could cut it to an even 33
3/4"x89
1/4", cut it narrower and/or shorter, or even build it up to make it bigger--email us
for a quote.
Condition:
Considering that the doors are over 100 years old, they're in good shape.
Door#1 has dents and small pieces of wood missing from the area right above the
lock housing.
Door#2 has a big chunk off wood broken from the area right above it's lock
housing and it's middle, horizontal panel has a crack in it. Although some of
the aforementioned issues sound bad, they're easily remedied by adding or
replacing with fresh wood--email us for a quote.
Otherwise, both doors have the typical scrapes,
scratches, dents, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on doors
this old. However, there are no serious flaws like broken joints,
cracked rails or stiles, rot or warp. The doors are strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
Refinish/Repaint: We
could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare
it for you to repaint or refinish. See
the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email
us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a
quote.
Swing: Door#1
is set up to swing inwardly towards the left and Door#2 swings towards the
right. However, we can modify either to
swing in the opposite direction--email
us for a quote.
Modification: We
could make these doors into a pair or we could modify either door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace wooden panels with glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small
description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
