Lacquerware is a unique art medium that has developed across Asia, mainly in China and Japan, but also having spread as far as Vietnam and Myanmar. However, among all these different traditions of lacquerware across Asia Japan's has gained such a strong reputation that its designs are now simply referred to as "Japan", similar to Chinese porcelain being referred to as "China".
Lacquerware has been created and used in daily life in Japan since the Jomon Era approximately 9,000 years ago.
Yamanaka lacquer ware is a traditional handicraft produced mainly in Ishikawa Prefecture. It is a lacquerware that is made in the Yamanaka district famous as the production ground of groundwood. Yamanaka lacquer ware was originated in the 16th century when the woodland craftmen of Echizen emigrated and began making woodlands with Rokuro. Yamanaka lacquerware, which is made in the famous Yamanaka district as the production base of the most famous kernel wooden in Japan, is characterized by the beauty of the underlying woodland.
