About history :
NPS Shoes LTD (Northamptonshire Productive Society)
was founded in 1881 by 5 men as a cooperative in Wollaston in the English county of Northamptonshire.
At that time they received an order from the government to manufacture boots for the army. They produced them in a pigeon house and secured a secure income for themselves and their employees.
With over 130 years of experience and tradition, NPS is still family-owned and today produces bespoke and handcrafted Goodyear Goodyear welted shoes.
In the 1950s, Dr Maertens and his colleague Mr Funk developed an air-cushioned sole.
NPS produced shoes with this air-cushioned sole for the first time in 1959.
NPS produced its own label Solovair (Sole of Air) for 35 years.
The shoes and boots were sold under the license under the name "Dr Martens by Solovair".
After more than 130 years of experience in shoe production, NPS now manufactures products for well-known customers such as George Cox Footware, Asos, Clarks Orginals, Jack Wills, M&S and many more in addition to its own brand SolovairClassics.
