Kofu Tsumugi is a beautiful fabric produced by Olympus in Japan which is perfect for sashiko stitching as well as patchwork projects and dressmaking.

This 100% cotton fabric is yarn-dyed and woven with a black weft to produce a characterful, speckled appearance and slightly slubby texture which resembles traditional, hand-woven Japanese silk. It handles beautifully whether you are piecing patchwork, stitching sashiko or making clothing.

This is the same fabric as the Susan  Briscoe panels are printed on, so it can be used as a border and backing for these (contrasting colours look particularly good). It can also be used alongside any of our other cotton fabrics, so is perfect for sashing or adding a touch of plain fabric to a quilt. You can also draw or transfer your own sashiko designs onto kofu tsumugi, which gives you lots of options for example making a sampler quilt.
