original antique lithographed 1895 transportation map of the main
portion of Brooklyn, printed more than 120 years
ago. -
The map shows streetcar lines, elevated
railroads, and ferry crossings on the East River.

The coverage
area extends from North 2nd Street to Greenwood Cemetery, including
Gowanus Bay, the U.S. Navy Yard, a small corner
of Newtown, and part of Flatbush.

Among the named places and features are the Brooklyn Bridge, Bushwick
Depot of the Long Island Railroad, Prospect Park,
Memorial Arch, Buttermilk Channel, India Wharf, Jail, Grand Street Ferry,
Red Hook, Bedford Park, and the Brooklyn
& Brighton Beach Railroad.

The map was published by Rand McNally and is dated 1895 in the lower
corner.

index to streets and points of interest in the margins at top and
bottom.
