Back by popular demand! These are THE REAL THING from 1981! Kept safely in their original tubes and in a dry and cool storage.

(psst, I recommend you stay away from cheap fakes.  I don't know why counterfeits appear on eBay, you will waste your time and in the end you will kick yourself cause those wannabes GI chips wont work they just make noise...if you are lucky...just read the blogs on that, please)

These are genuine vintage 1981 chips from the hay day of real hardware hacking and not emulators. I only have a limited quantity!!   I personally bought a large lot of these many years ago and plan on keeping a few.  The 3.12Mhz crystal is hard to find too (I mean why else would you use a 3.12mkz osc for if not for this chip?) and I have included it in this kit to make it easy for you.  (just FYI, I have tested with the 3.57Mhz color burst crystal too but the voice speeds up to an almost Star Wars Battle Droid sound, great if that is what you are looking for)  These SP0256s have been tested by me.

With this kit you get the IC and crystal and Cap set.  I am also including a 28 quality round pin wide socket for convenience. They will come packaged on an anti-static mat and in an anti-static bag all inside a box well padded to prevent any damage. (All the information below is from the custom package these came in from Radio Shack back in the day)

Here is what you get:

1x SP0256A-AL2 Narrator(TM) Speech Processor

The SP0256 (Speech Processor) is a single chip N-Channel MOS LSI device that is able, using its stored program, to synthesize speech or complex sounds. The achievable output is equivalent to a flat frequency response ranging from 0 to 5 kHz, a dynamic range of 42dB, and a signal to noise ratio of approximately 35dB.

The SP0256 incorporates four basic functions:
• A software programmable digital filter that can be made to model a VOCAL TRACT_
• A 16K ROM which stores both data and instructions (THE PROGRAM).
• A MICRO CONTROLLER which controls the data flow from the ROM to the digital filter, the assembly of the "word strings" necessary for linking speech elements together, and the amplitude and pitch information to excite the digital filter.
• A PULSE WIDTH MODULA TOR that creates a digital output which is converted to an analog signal when filtered by an external low pass filter.

Features • Natural Speech • Stand Alone Operation with Inexpensive Support Components • Wide Operating Voltage • Word, Phrase, or Sentence Library, ROM Expandable • Expandable to 491 K of ROM Directly • Simple Interface to Most Microcomputers or Microprocessors • Supports L.P.C. Synthesis: Format Synthesis: Allophone Synthesis

1X Genuine General Instruments SP0256A-AL2 Speech Processor
1x 3.12 Mhz Oscillator Crystal
2X 22pF Capacitors for the 3.12Mhz Crystal
1X Round 28 PIN DIP Socket

Please note these are rare and slowly vanishing from availability in this NOS condition. I am rethinking listing my very low remaining stock as I like to tinker with these great chips myself.  If you have any questions please ask.
