Engine Lamp

Main Features:
Handcrafted (not by me -- I purchased it about 15 years ago).
Main components appear to be steel.
Camshaft is from a BMW engine. The camshaft is stamped BMW.
Uses a standard screw-in bulb. Your choice: incandescent, CFL or LED.
Heavy -- around 20 pounds.
Included:
  WYSIWYG
Dimmer module. Installs easily between bulb and socket, turning the entire lamp into a "touch switch". Tap anywhere on the lamp to turn on dimly, tap again for mid-range, tap again for full bright, tap again for off. I used an incandescent bulb. I do not know if the dimmer module will correctly operate a CFL or LED bulb.
NOT Included:
  Bulb.
Condition:
Quite a bit of corrosion has appeared on all surfaces, some more than others. This can be removed by one or more of the following techniques: applying "Naval jelly", fine-grit sandpaper, electric drill or dremel operating a rotating wire brush. Having done restoration projects like this, I believe removing the engine lamp's corrosion will take one to two hours. The time can be split over several work sessions. The result may not be sparkling brand-new appearance, but it never was that way, because of the construction materials. Iron oxidizes. That's its immutable physiochemical property.
The bulb socket assembly is Crazy Glued onto the stem below it. Treat this part with excess caution. Don't "manhandle" it. To assemble, first gently attach the "harp", then screw in the dimmer module (if you prefer to utilize that), then screw in the light bulb, then attach the lampshade using the "finial". The dimmer module, harp and finial are inside the large box. If you over-tighten the dimmer module or light bulb, the excess torque may detach the bulb socket assembly from the stem that holds it. This defect is likely repairable upon partial disassembly of the top portion of the engine lamp, and possible replacement of either the stem screw or the bulb socket assembly or both. Or you can just treat it with "kid gloves" as I did for the many years that it sat on one of my living room side-tables.
The lamp, and the dimmer module, functioned normally when tested prior to this eBay listing.
Why selling:
This lamp was a perfect match with my former home in northern Michigan, a ranch style residence.  Several years ago I sold it, moved to south Florida, and built an ultra-modern house. As much as I still like the engine lamp, it simply does not go with the look of my home's interior. And I tried placing it every room.
Please note:
This shipment consists of two boxes. Even though I have sold many, many items on eBay, this is the first time that an item I am selling is packed into two separate boxes. eBay is not at all helpful with regard to how to calculate a shipping cost when a single item require more than one box. What I did here was to combine the weights of both boxes, but input only the largest box's dimensions. When the winning bidder authorizes payment, I will then have the buyer's address. At that point, I can bring both boxes to UPS and obtain the actual shipping cost. If the cost is higher then what the buyer initially pays upon winning the auction, then a second payment will have to be issued before the item will be shipped. If (and this is doubtful) the cost is lower, then I will refund the difference via PayPal.
