Replica USAAF Mechanics A3 Cap Khaki

WW2 USAAF HBT cap, this popular hat was designed for wear by Air Force mechanics but it was also worn by some flight crew as it was comfortable and practical.

Officially called "Cap, Mechanic's, Summer, Type A-3" it is made from Herringbone Twill (HBT) and has the shape of a baseball cap with large peak to keep the sun out of the eyes. 

The peak on the cap was often shaped so it rolled up which gives it an even more distinctive look. The cap is made from 6 panels and it has 6 white canvas strengthening strips along the seams with the USAAF logo stamped on the outside of the cap.

The colour of the caps varied between green and khaki depending on the manufacturer. This one is made in a khaki colour. 

The USAAF A3 HBT mechanics cap features:

• HBT fabric with its distinctive weave.
• Baseball design.
• USAAF logo and the words "Army Air Forces" printed on the side.
• Long peak.
• Made from 6 panels.
• On the inside white tape sewn over the seams for reinforcement.
