Description: The first printing of the first edition. Original cloth hardback with green titles to front and spine. 7.5 inches by 4.75 inches. 350 pages. In very pleasing condition, with light wear to the edges and some rubbing (see pictures). Browning to endpapers. Clean and free of inscriptions. Binding sound and square. A very nice example of the first printing.
Liam Ó Flaithearta (1896-1984) wrote mainly in English, although he was a native Irish speaker. He fought in the Irish Guards in the First World War. He was a founder member of the Irish Communist Party, and seized the Rotunda two days after the foundation of the Free State, flying the red flag and holding it for four days. He fought on the anti-Treaty side in the Battle of Dublin.
