Frederick Bannister Led Zeppelin 1979 Knebworth full page advert to dispel rumors, calm down the press
As concert promoter for Knebworth, Frederick
Bannister took out a full page advert to message the rock world that all was
well between him and Led Zeppelin and the Knebworth Festival, which Zep played
2 nights in 1979. He went on to dispel any
rumors of discord and to express that he hopes to with the group again in the
future. If you did not get this specific
issue of Melody Maker, dated October 6, 1979, you do not have this piece of
rock history. The message was penned
September 20, 1979, 2-1/2 weeks prior to the publication. I would wager he ran it more than once,
though, so this may not be the first time it ran…not sure…but it is rock and
roll history, for sure. This was a big
deal in 1979…a lot of rumors about discord and unhappiness in the camp with
stories going around of the band not willing to work out a contract so everyone
gets paid properly. The advert tells the
full story.
This page is 41-years old and in very good condition. Would be a great piece of memorabilia for the
Zep collection. On newsprint. Will be mailed folded as it has been for all
these years. Size is approximately 13” x
17-1/2”. Kept in a box in a smoke-free
environment. Will be carefully packaged for
the dangerous journey.
