Vintage
large-format
fold-out 1940 official highway map of Missouri, printed more than 80
years
ago.
- This map opens to a generous
20" x 28½" and was
published by the Missouri State Highway Commission, Jefferson City, in
1940.
- There is good detail on old road alignments, including
U.S. Route 66, plus inset plans of
Kansas City and St. Louis.
- The map locates numerous landmarks and points of interest, including
the Industrial Home for Negro Girls,
the state's first lead mine, Mark Twain National Forest, birthplace of
General Pershing,
and the U.S. Hospital for Defective Delinquents.
- On the reverse side there are color
photos of scenes around the state, including Elephant Rock, Ste.
Genevieve,
Bagnell Dam, a tobacco warehouse, and an overhanging rock formation
along U.S.
Route 71 in the Ozarks.
- Condition: This map is in very good, lightly used condition, with no
marks or writing. It is printed on a heavily-inked semi-glossy paper that shows
breaks on some of the folds, and there's some minor loss along the upper edge,
outside of the image area. A couple of the weaker folds have been reinforced
with archival tape. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any
questions.
