This vintage Zenith / Vail Watch Company 8 days marine chronometer
is in very good original condition. It is in good running order. This is a RARE Chromometer, made for the US Navy during World War II. Vail was a company in
Chicago that upgraded Zenith (Swiss made) movements for use as torpedo boat or
deck watches. The movement was originally a 6-jewel automobile clock which was
up-jeweled to 15 jewels to meet the U.S. Navy specifications. See photos. The
movement Serial Number is 200310. is housed in a brass case ,mounted in a
gimbaled ring which is suspended in a three tier 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" x 4
7/8" wooden box. All
pieces are in vintage original condition. The outer box has scratches and signes of usage.The Zenith/Vail pieces are less common than the
Waltham/Roth ones. These conversions occurred at the start of WWII.
