fold-out 1920 Washington pocket map, printed more
than 100 years
ago.
- This map was published by
Rand McNally,
Chicago and opens to 53.3 x 71 cm [21" x 28"].
- It is drawn on a scale of 15 miles to one inch and is printed on
two sides.
- One side shows automobile roads in the state of Washington and labels
named trails, including the Pacific Highway, Pioneer Way, Sunshine Highway,
and the National Parks Transcontinental Highway.
- The other side shows railroad lines, as well as electric lines and
steamship lines, with topography drawn in relief. A numbered legend key
identifies railroads by name, and the map locates Mount Rainier National Park,
Yakima Indian Reservation, Fort Spokane, the Port Townsend & Puget Sound Railroad,
and Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, and other cities.

The map was issued in a booklet titled Rand McNally Indexed Pocket Map, Tourists'
and Shippers' Guide of Washington, published by Rand McNally & Company,
Chicago, 1920.
- The booklet measures 6½" x 4" and has 64 pages. Contents include
an alphabetical directory of towns and counties, a list of railroads, and a sprinkling of ads.

Condition: The map is detached from the booklet and is in very good condition,
with folds, as issued. The booklet itself has some scattered ink marks from a previous owner
and there are a couple of scuffs on the rear pages. The original cardboard cover, which is detached
from the booklet, has some chips and has darkened and
turned brittle with age. The rear cover is only partially present. Please see the scans and
