Decking Oil penetrates deeply into timber surfaces and, in a similar way to bark, attaches to the wood capillaries providing protection against extreme climate conditions. This product is designed for use on timbers like cedar, larch, pine and lots more. It is not suitable for timbers which contain lots of tannin's, such as oak. This oil is the ideal finish for cladding, doors, windows and other exterior joinery and decking that uses softwoods.
This treatment prolongs the life of the wood keeping the wood supple. If treated every 3-4 years will help prevent cracking, splitting and discolouring. This product is a clear dry product so wont effect the original colour of the wood when used on new timber. If you are treating anything other then new timber just wet the timber with water, the shade the timber goes when wet the timber will go after application of our treatment.
Please test this product on a small unseen area of timber before full application. You want to make sure you are happy with the finish.
One coat should do the job, however, it does depend on the porosity and age of the wood. Application can be hand bushed, sprayed or dipped. The oil treatment wont work if the wood has already been varnished or waxed. Cedar Cladding Oil can be used on pressure treated timber. If your sprayer isn't up to the job this treatment can be thinned with white spirit.
Rye Oil Ltd suggests that for best results reapplication should take place every 3-4 years.
HOW TO USE
Clean timber before use.
Application
Apply a generous coating of Decking Oil with a paint brush or roller or spray.Allow to penetrate for 30-40 minutes then required apply the second coatwithout waiting for the first to totally dry. Continue to apply more coats ofDecking Oil until the timber no longer absorbs the oil. Pooling is a sign thatthe timber had absorbed all it can. Wipe any excess with a lint-free cottoncloth and allow to penetrate for 24 hours before using the decking.
Important
Oil finishes bring out the natural colours of timber. A wet surface will be anindication of the final colour. Always test the product on a spare surface orinconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end result. If you havingproblems spraying, you can thin with white spirit.
