PAY TRIBUTE TO THE 50 YEARS OF "BASEBALL IN ATLANTA"

WITH THIS TEE-SHIRT HONORING THE HIGHLIGHTS!

  • Since April 12, 1966, major league baseball had been played in a two-block area of downtown Atlanta, but as of October 2, 2016, no more!
  • This "BASEBALL IN ATLANTA" two-sided tee-shirt pays tribute to the 50 years baseball was played at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium (1966-1996) and Turner Field (1997-2016)
  • The front has the words "BASEBALL IN ATLANTA" over crossed bats with the dates 1966-2016
  • The back is more elaborate, with the words and dates repeated above nine selected highlights, with the dates in "ribbons"
  • From left to right, top to bottom:
  • "Opening Day", April 12, 1966, FULTON CO. STADIUM (commemorating the first major-league game in any sport ever played in Atlanta, in which 50,671 watched Pittsburgh's Willie Stargell hit a two-out two-run home run off STARTING pitcher Tony Cloninger in the top of the 13th inning and catcher Joe Torre hit his second homer of the game in the bottom half as the Braves lost to the Pirates 3-2)
  • "It's 715!" April 8, 1974 (the memorable words spoken by Braves radio announcer Milo Hamilton as the country tuned in on national television to watch Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run off Los Angeles lefty Al Downing in the fourth inning of the home opener to break the career mark of the legendary Babe Ruth)
  • "Horn's 4 HOMERS" July 6, 1986 (a feat rarer than a perfect game, which later also happened in Atlanta, but Braves third baseman Bob Horner was one of 16 major-league players to accomplish it in an 11-8 loss to the Montreal Expos, one of only two times this feat occurred in a defeat)
  • "WORST TO FIRST Chop to the Top!", October 1991 (a month in which the Braves clinched the West Division pennant, won their first National League championship in a thrilling seven-game series with Pittsburgh, then lost in seven games to Minnesota in the only World Series ever between two teams who went from worst, the year before, to first in their league)
  • "SID SLID" October 14, 1992 ("Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win" were the words uttered by legendary announcer Skip Caray as the team's slowest hitter Sid Bream slid across home plate with the winning run after Francisco Cabrera's two-out single completed a comeback from a 2-0 ninth-inning deficit, giving Atlanta its second straight National League Championship Series victory over Barry Bonds and the Pirates)
  • "World Champions!" October 28, 1995 (David Justice's sixth-inning homer off former Georgia Tech pitcher Jim Poole accounted for the only run of World Series Game 6, Tom Glavine threw a one-hit shutout for eight innings, closer Mark Wohlers went 1-2-3 in the ninth and center fielder Marquis Grissom caught the final pitch off the bat of Carlos Baerga as the Braves gave the city of Atlanta its only world championship in 54 years of playing in the four major U.S. professional sports leagues)
  • "14 Straight DIVISION CHAMPIONS" 1991-2005 (a feat unmatched by any pro sports team, the first three championships coming in the N.L. West and the final 11 in the N.L. East from 1995 to 2005, with the player-strike year of 1994 never completed)
  • "RJ's Perfect Game!" May 18, 2004 (not a Braves highlight for sure, but this is a Baseball in Atlanta history shirt, and for that you have to include Randy Johnson's "perfecto" for Arizona, one of only 23 in major-league history, 21 in the modern era beginning in 1900)
  • "Last Call AT THE TED" October 2, 2016 (the end of Major-League Baseball in Atlanta, fifty and one-half years after Pittsburgh's Matty Alou got the first hit in Fulton County Stadium and brother Felipe got the first Braves hit, former Brave Justin Upton took a third strike for the Last Call at The Ted)
  • At the bottom of the shirt are these poignant, farewell words: "A TOO FAST 50 YEARS." on one line with "Thanks for the memories!" below
