RARE STATUETTE PRE-COLOMBIAN - VENUS CHUPICUARO
Little Venus of Culture Chupicuaro, Guanajuato State, Western Mexico
Preclassic period 400-100 BC
Light brown ceramic with traces of creamy white pigments
Woman standing, arms underlined by pastillage, head with skull deformed ritually upwards, eyes outlined obliquely. Presence of a necklace and circular earrings.
Height 5.8 cm (7.7 cm with the stand)

PRECOLUMIBIAN CHUPICUARO FIGURE
Pre-Columbian, Guanajuato Valley, Mexico City, Ca 500 BCE. A beautiful "pretty lady" figure. She has small arms, she is wearing double row of beads around her neck and ornate armband - her hair neatly parted down the middle.
Pretty lady figurines were quite common throughout Mexico, particularly among the Chupicuaro, Michoacan, and Tlatilco societies. The exact purpose of these figures is still up for debate with the most common interpretation that they are fertility idols buried in homes and fields. They have also been argued that the figures may have been protective items that were ritually broken as young women matured through different life phases.
Height 5.8 cm (7.7 cm with stand)
